These guys didn't do the actual analysis. It was done by Blackstone Laboratories. One of the other oil change threads on this website mentions Blackstone which is what got me onto the subject.
I wouldn't trust some schmoe who uses his kid's chemistry set to play junior scientist on his oil. I am tempted to send a sample of my oil to Blackstone to have them analyze it though.
Unfortunately, I changed my oil on Sunday so I need to wait about 3,000 miles minimum before I do it.
So...as I briefy looked at this report...is this the cliffs:
Mobil 1 is typically good for 8000 before a change is needed?
Changing filter and a top off every 4000 extends oil life by 50%?
(Did not see a comment about requiring a yearly change, if a daily driver and 8K not reached, in reference to another multi-page thread on this 1 yr subject on this forum)
1) Blindly changing the oil at 3,000 or perhaps even 5,000 miles is simplistic and a waste of money (and resources.) Furthermore, it MIGHT actually be counterproductive.
2) It costs very little to send my oil to Brookstone Labs a couple times a year to keep an eye on what's happening internally to my engine. Now that I have rolled 100k miles I want to ensure that I get 200k or 300k out of the engine.
3) If anything, swapping the filter in between oil changes can be effective.

Long duration (high mileage) intervals between oil changes should still include intermediate oil filter changes.
