Default HELP Z needs clutch

There was a strange noise in the Z so I brought it to a local shop (nonperformance shop). The most I had done there previously was oil change and inspection sticker. Anyway they just called and said it was the throw out bearing going out. They suggested to change out the clutch/flywheel etc. All said and done they quoted $2700. Does this sound right? If not what should I pay? That was for OEM also. Should I go with aftermarket instead? Also besides a slightly annoying noise what is the danger of just driving it until the bearing goes completely out? I only drive it about 2-3 days a week. Thanks.

Update: I called around a few places. I called a well known shop in Houston and they came in a lot cheaper with a much more expensive clutch. They suggested RPS, LS9, or LS9R. These are all quite a bit more than OEM. What are you guys thoughts? Should I just go back OEM? My only mods are headers, hi flow cats, aftermarket CAI, and tune. Only mod I may do in the near future will be a cam. Not sure if I put earlier. My car is 06 Z06 with 40k miles.

If you dont race it that much just get an LS9... will hold a ton of power and drive near stock.

So you are talking about a new clutch only because everything has to come apart anyway? Or does the current one actually have enough miles on it to be close to needing replacement?

I know the general recommendation is to replace the clutch most anytime you go in there but.....? Not challenging you, just wondering if you really need to spend the money for a clutch.

BTW, that $2700 is way out of the ballpark. Good luck.

After having a problem with the OEM clutch, I would opt to an upgraded clutch. Just my 02

Way out of the park for a stock Z06 clutch. For that price you should be getting a Katech LS9 setup. Contact RichieRichZ06, a forum vendor for a good price on the kit. 10-11 hours is the GM book time for doing a clutch.

I would think you could upgrade to the LS9 clutch(requires new flywheel and slave cylinder) installed for around $2,000. Will hold a lots more then a stock LS7 clutch.

I will most likely go with the LS9R clutch kit. I have one price quote on the ls9r of 2500 installed. They also threw out there for 5200 I could get the ls9r, cam, and tune. I'm waiting to get a quote and time frame from one other guy before I decide. Do these prices sound more reasonable? Thanks.

I upgraded to an LS9R clutch earlier this year, and I am very happy with it.

I'm still looking into some options. Another member said he could beat the quote I got so I'm waiting to hear from him. I definetly want the LS9R clutch. I hate to go back stock since it failed once and the labor is the same. The LS7 would be much cheaper. I could have it done for around 1250. I'll post up when I get it done. Ronald, is the LS9R all they make it out to be?

Can you describe the noise? Not sure I trust the shop to diagnose problems accurately.
