Default Shifter Vibration normal??

Hi All, I have a manual 07 vert, and when I accelerate...is it normal to feel what I think is excessive vibration through the shifter? Also hear a buzzing through the shifter......any thoughts?? Oh yes, bought my vert this year with 60k miles. Are the rubber bushings on the shift housing gone??
Thanks

First, what you think is excessive might not actually be. If it's "normal" then it can't be excessive.

There have been a lot of threads on shifter vibration - mostly centered on the Z06. But I suspect that many of the same underlying factors exist in the base C6 as well but that they get hidden by more sound deadening and the like.

It's definitely possible that the bushings have worn as well as the bushings where the rod in the shifter box slides back and forth and rotates. A recent post from George at MGW suggests that for optimal happiness the shifter boxes themselves should be replaced at approx. every 30k miles.

The 2007 cars have a different shifter box part number from the later cars (you can PM RichieRichZ06 for a full rundown on this topic) and using the later model shifter box has been the cure for "shifter rattle" in a lot of cases (mostly Z06s though, I believe.) It certainly cured my car's very loud racket.

The only way you'll know if the bushings are worn is to get in there and take a look and if you're going to that much trouble you might as well just install the latest shifter box anyway (and maybe an MGW shifter as well ) Neither is a really tough job and the results are well worth the couple of hours of effort. At 60k miles a general tightening up of all those pieces will probably yield a much nicer driving experience. It's actually on the list of things to do "real soon now" on my car, in fact.

Does this happen at any particular RPM? I have a vibration between 3800-4000rpms.

It happens at any "spirited" acceleration. I am thinking about a new MGW shifter...does it come complete with shifting box and bushings?

The MGW shifter is just the shifter. The shifter bolts to the top of the shifter box (a GM part) which, in turn, bolts to the torque tube. In this pic you can see the shifter bolted to the top of the shifter box (four bolts) while the entire assembly is free of the torque tube. (Ignore the red circle.)

mine vibrates a little under throttle application...you can feel it subside when the throttle closes again. It's not so much that you would SEE it moving, but you can feel it.

I never really saw it as an issue.
