Replacing tires 2 questions
I've always heard that the Khumos XS was the better in dry but worse in wet than the RE-11 and that the RS-3 didn't perform as well as it was expected to.
You're saying 100% opposite of what I've read in research and been told from the guys at Tire Rack.
Where are you pulling that info?
I said that RE-11 and XS are equal in dry. Would you argue that XS is slightly faster. Fine, but it's close.
I said that RE-11 is faster than XS is rain. Would you like to argue the opposite?
I said that RS-3 are supposed to be a little faster in the dry.
"Consider the most recent Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska, where the most popular street-tire class consisting of Honda S2000s, Mazda Miatas and the odd Toyota MR2 Spyder was running almost entirely on the Hankook Ventus R-S3. Thirteen of the top 17 trophy positions (64 entrants total) in Street Touring Roadster were on Hankooks in this hyper-competitive class..."
What's your source that says RS-3's don't preform well. I have not heard any bad feedback. Try Googling 'autocross hankook rs-3'
I base my opinion on my personal experience on track with RE-11 and feedback from other track drivers, instructors, and mechanics who specialize in track car prep.
Finally, who cares what I think. Do your own research. All three are great tires. Give them a try on the track and make your own decision.
These debates about the 'best' tires are tiring. Driving skill, training, and seat time on a track will make a bigger difference than which tire pulls .01g more.
