I have a 2005 Z51 Coupe with 76,000 miles. I track it at least one weekend every two months. I have always given my Rear Toe Link Boots a couple shots of fresh grease after my track days (just until the boot was soft and plump).
I was doing my post-track inspection and went to give it a few pumps. Passenger side still had plenty and the drivers side was flat. As soon as I finished the 2nd pump, it started oozing out what appears to be a small tear.
Here are my questions: Since I can assume I just ran that link without any grease, does the entire link need replaced? Can you replace just the boot and does anybody have any part numbers? Is it worth replacing with factory part or is there an aftermarket part that requires less maintenance (ie some sort of bushing)? It's my understanding that '07+ did not have the greasable links...are they a less maintenance-intensive direct-replacement option? My baby is sitting on jack stands until I can sort this out...any input is much appreciated! :
autozone sells upgraded boots
I think they were marketed for C5s
not having the grease fittings is a negative.
the ones without will wear out sooner
if youre ever desperate and need to get around (ie to pick up parts or just get to work), you can seal a cut in the rubber with black weatherstrip adhesive
works for cv boots as well
Sounds like a dumb question I'm sure, but what is the technical name for that boot? I checked with O'Reilly's and they had nothing with the words "Toe Link" anywhere in their system, and now I'm on the GM Online Parts pages and can't seem to find an illustration of a part that I know exists... Does it have a funny name?
Got it. Managed to figure that out and have read just about every thread in the forums on it. After all the work, the boys from ACR (Arizona Corvette Racing) were able to set me in the right direction. Thanks!
