There should be a magnets on the A6 pan. Every 20,000 to 30,000 miles I drain, drop the pan, replace the filter, clean the pan, check the gasket, reinstall the pan, and refill. I also drain and refill the diff. No problems yet on my 07 A6 with well over 120,000 miles on it. Good Luck!

I guess a magnetic plug would not hurt. My stock diff lasted about 98,000 miles, then I replaced it with a new diff from RPM trans.
