Default DIC Options Menu

My wife and I just finished a trip through Canada. When I was driving using FOB #1 I had access to the Options menu and was able to change the display to metric so the speed was shown in KPH Vs MPH. When my wife was driving using FOB #2 the displays went back to English Vs Metric and we could not access the Options Menu. Every time the Options button was pushed the DIC displayed OPTIONS NOT AVAILABLE. As soon as the car was started with FOB #1 everything was back to normal.

Anybody have any idea what is going on?

I have never seen this before and the Owner's Manual and Service Manual do not seem to address it.

The fob that you have that is labeled as fob #2 was not programmed for the car as fob #2. For some reason, it was programmed as fob #3 or fob #4. Fob numbers 3 & 4 do not have DIC memory options.

Also, going to the other fob reverted the memory options back to the default states.

2008 owner's manual, page 3-72.

If a keyless access transmitter that is not labelled 1 or 2
is used, the personalization system will not recognize
the transmitter. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will
not display a current driver number and the features
that are normally programmed through the DIC will be
set to the default states. Also, if the OPTION button
is pressed, the DIC does not display the menus used to
set personalizations, but instead displays OPTIONS
UNAVAILABLE for a few seconds.

Ah so!! Looks like I will have to retrain the car to make sure FOB #2 is recognized as FOB #2. Guess that is what happens when you buy a used car.

I dont know if you read the procedure to "train" the new fob, its a little complicated. Its a 9 step procedure that has you do everything except stand on your head and spit pistachio shells with humming the star spangeled banner.

Could they make it a little easier ?
