Engage launch control, aim car straight ahead, gas pedal to the floor - engine with only go to 4,000 RPM, side-step the clutch and keep the gas pedal floored and hold on.

This^^ but you first have to put it in competitive driving mode.
launch control was introduced for vettes and camaros for 2010 models im not sure if all trims get it but u sure should be in competitive mode to get rid of some tire spin...
Anything less than full throttle will not engage launch control. If you're getting that much wheel spin, you ain't doin' it right!
It did stop at 4k with wot, so it was engaged... Maybe it doesn't know what do do with cooler roads, but it was in the 60's when I tried it, not like it was 40 out. I just think it's a lot of hype... Even watching the videos when it was introduced, quite a bit of spin. From drag racing I can tell you, wheel spin is not the fastest launch.
Unlike some of the hypercar systems the computer has no control on the clutch, so it's only able to modulate the throttle.

I have drag raced for 30+ years in a variety of cars and currently have a 9.40's GTO (NA) . I dont compete with my Callaway but took it to a street event at our track for a what will she do session. I ran multiple passes , the best being a 12.01 @ 126 mph ( air was over 4000 ft and actual is 2300 ft). As someone who knows how to launch a car i could not match that time without the launch control activated. i was on street tires so it was not a controlled test by any means. Launching with the control activated got me down the track with short times consistently in the 1.90 range which i could not replicate with the system turned off. Yes the tires spun but way less than with me trying to feather the throttle and the clutch at the same time.
i came away sold that it operates better than me and it is 100% consistant.
