Shifter box install

Installing a new shifter box, old unit was shot. Torque spec says 22ft lbs on the bolts, but that much seems to almost totally compress the bushings , is that right ?

Yes. Remember that the original Z06 box had *no* bushings and that was considered to be ok by the engineers. So the desired cushioning effect is a minimal one. You don't want any movement as you do your work with the thing but you do want internal vibrations (at frequencies that you'd never generate yourself) damped.
