Default When to shift?

Should you be shifting at 6200ish or where your hp and trq cross on your dyno sheet?

My hp/trq intersect at 5200(which is 640rwhpand 640rwtq) but my hp climbs to about 5800.(659rwhp) on a mustang dyno.

I was just thinking it should be shifting earlier and end of third seems too long at the end of the 1/4.

Last year on 18/19 with invos i did 10.79et at 137mph(560rwhp)
last week on 19/20 with invos i did 10.76et at 129mph(650rwhp) with lots of slipping.

There is nothing special at all about 5252 RPM. It is an artifact of units conversion when plotting horsepower and torque (in lb.-ft.) on the same piece of graph paper. Plot the exact same measurements in kilowatts and newton-meters and they won't "cross" at all.

even with some tire spin, that's odd do lose that much MPH, especially given the HP increase.

As far as shifting, take it all the way to redline every time.

Drew, the problem is that with the extra power you have now your running slower then before because your just spinning down the track more. You need a really beefy tire to plant that kind of power, and a 19" rim is not helping either.

As far as when to shift, what you need to look for is where you have the highest average HP. So if your car goes to 6600, but power starts to fall of at say 6300, it may be in your best interest to still take it to red line to achieve the highest average.
Many people think you want to go to HP peak and shift, but then you go lower in the power range upon shifting, thus lowering your average HP.

So first thing first, get a tire on there thats worthy of the power you make, then take a look at your graph and figure out your shift point.

Nice times BTW!! tens from a street car is great, spinning or not.

That makes sense Doug. 3rd seems to wind out too far.

Im going this weekend with some stickies.

I will put up a video of last week so you can see my car go into limp mode then kick back in and still in the 10's.

The dash said active handling something.
