I just got back from an oil change.I have a 2010 ls3. It has 15,000 miles the mech said at 10,000 that the pan was a little wet at 15,00 it has gotten the whole pan wet.. Not dripping.. No oil loss on dip stick.... He put dye in it and said it is coming from the pan gasket
I trust the mech .. One of the other mechs said that the engine needs to come out to get to the gasket is that true?
We typically drop the engine cradle, as it's a lot less work. If the tech is getting flag hours, he may make more by pulling the engine. It can be done with out the removal of the engine however.
thank you very much... you would like this kid he is very good with cars at the local chevy dealership....im going to make arrangements to get it done....thanks
Unless of course it's not actually the pan gasket that's leaking but the rear main seal.
Almost every C6 (almost every LSx motor equipped car for that matter) that I've ever been underneath has some form of oil staining/signs of light drippage on it's oil pan and most were running just fine too so it might not even be entirely necessary to do anything at all.
Our LS3 had a wet pan outside after a year, at 2 years the dealership added dye and retorqued the pan bolts. Now 3 months/3k miles later, still no leak.
had oil pan gasket replaced 4 weeks ago, 08 LS3, they stated they removed the cradle. Couple of high rpm shifts later, still no leaks, I check at least twice a week
