So I'm new to this site. I just purchased my first Corvette, a 2006 C6 with an LS2. I love this car, and I'm having a blast with it in Germany. However, I have this chirping noise that from researching on this site, I believe it to be the Harmonic Balancer. I've looked under the hood and you can see a noticeable wobble with it. From the sounds of things, I don't think I will attempt to replace it myself (not that I'm not willing to do it, just lack of space and tools). My first problem is finding a good service department here in Germany. I am in Hohenfels and I'm very hesitant to take it to just anybody. Is there anybody familiar with this area that can recommend someone? My second problem, is the cost. Things are a bit more expensive here in Germany. I know I can purchase the parts and save a bit of money, but I want to make sure I get the right stuff, and I'm willing to pay for good quality. I've read about ATI and SLP and 10% and 25% underdrive balancers, and I have to admit, for a newbie it can a bit overwhelm. Any recommendations as far as what all I should order (balancer, belts, bolts) and a good website? Any help is greatly appreciated.
you can get it with or without underdrive
katech should have all the hardware as well as appropriate belt sizing
There are more things than just the crank pulley that can make a chirping sound, and changing this part out isnt exactly cheap. I suggest using a hose or tube of some sort to isolate the sound (tube to your ear then run other end to the crank pulley, the alternator, etc) before spending any money.
I was stationed in K-town 13 years ago. There was a corvette shop in Gensingen and I remembered seeing his business card in a drawer a while back. I found it!
Corvette Malburg GmbH
Am Kieselberg 10 - 55457 Gensingen
Telefon 0 67 27/ 55 55
(3 km vom Autobahnkreuz Bingen A61)
Not sure if any of this info is any good anymore but it may be worth a shot.
I needed a water pump on a Sunday for my vette once and he said if I want to drive up there he'd open up to sell me a pump. He lived next door in a VERY nice house!
I wouldn't visit any corvette shop without talking to someone within the German American Corvette club. I moved back to the states in 2005 and there were a few shops that folks did not visit and the shops had "corvette" in their name.
Just a word of caution.
