Default LS3 vs Ls9

Hi

I have a LS3 C6 with simple mod's header's , fast lsr intake, tune for about 2 years and looking now to add a lot more hp.

What would be the safe potential on the LS3 in hp??

Would it be cheaper to sell the LS3 and get a ls9?? From what I can look up the LS9 has forged crank titanium rods forged pistons etc. which allow for the extra hp well in to the 640+ and more. And 10Psi of boost.

The Ls3 can only be run up to 7psi of boost.

Maybe link sto good mod Ls3 would help.

Thanks

I believe a LS9 crate engine runs around $21,000 and you still have lots of parts to buy(like a hood, air breather, heat exchanger, front end accessories, etc). A 599HP Edelbrock E-Force will run you around $8000(I'm guessing, as you need to get your own quotes) and you don't need a new hood. Leaves lots of money to upgrade the engine, trans/differential, etc),

True, but I do believe that does includes the blower/intercooler and such...I wonder if there is any way to get only the LS9 long block (or short block) with nothing else attached to it. Could be a pretty stout (yet light) platform to build upon for a nice forced induction street project.

for that kind of investment, check out ERL sleeved shortblocks. they have forged cranks, and beefy internals. you can go to 454 cu in. with an LS3 block. if you choose to keep your original block, they only charge $1,200.00 for the core charge. an ERL 454, LS3 is good for +600 hp and 550 torque, with heads and cam...total under 10k

LS9 crate engine is the long block with the blower/intercooler sitting on top. Does not include all the stuff to just install the engine and hit the start button as does the E-Force. $13,000 (+ the extra $9,000 neeeded to install the LS9)will go a long ways toward building a forged LS3(using the OP's LS3) and beefing up the drive train.

Why not an A&A kit or ECS kit, meth kit, and a better clutch if you have an M6. That will likely make more power than the OP will ever be able to put down and at less than half the cost. The combo could easily be tuned to dust a ZR1.
