Gentlemen, I need some help. I bought a used 2008 MN6 with one FOB. I bought a new FOB but could not program it because the key with the old FOB didn't work the trunk or the glovebox. Before I could get a new key cut I lost my original "working" FOB.
I got a new key cut but can't get the car to enter the programming mode. I have the hatch open, the drivers door open, glove box open. Of course the alarm sounded etc. When I turn the key 5 times in 5 sec the DSC doesn't display anything it just stays blank. Can anyone provide any assistance with what I'm doing wrong? Also in case I can't get this FOB programed what's my next move to get me back on the road? Thanks for all the help.
You may not be turning the key fast enough.....or....you may not be turning it a full 90 degrees one or more times (possibly because there is dirt in the lock preventing it).....or...the lock may not be pulling the switch far enough.....or...the wires inside may be disconnected. Check this info for possible fix:

(my thumbs are numb at the moment) I was not able to get the DIC to display the programming information after the 5 key turns method so I pulled out the back carpet and had a look at the locking mechanism. I then tried manually pushing the locking mechanism by hand for the 5 times and as soon as I did that the DIC displayed the "ready for Fob X' message. I'm assuming that the key turns were not fully pulling the lock all the way so by hand it solves that problem instantly. So for anybody who is having problems programming a key fob try this method and you might have some luck.

I will add that I have had luck with continuing to turn the key (or push the mechanism) past the five times. Remember that the system will respond to any five turns, not just the first five. So try the key and the mechanism continuously and keep watching and listening for a response from the DIC.

Another post in that same thread was very good also. Remember that turning the key just engages a simple switch that connects two wires that go to the computer to kick it into the program mode. This post bypasses that switch and connects those two wires directly. Dirty internal contacts, especially on a switch that rarely gets used, can cause problems, so this makes good sense. Thanks CGEAVES....

I then followed the two electrical wires that are bunched with the cable back to a connector which is just on the driver's side of the latch down low. I separated the connector and used a straightened paper clip cut into two pieces to poke into the female side of the connector. I then tapped the two pieces of paper clip together 5 times and immediately got the message on the dash that it was ready to program. Plugged my new remote into the learning slot and in two seconds it was ready. My cable has a bit of slack in it but my key opens the trunk with no problems. Don't know why it wouldn't go into programming mode when I took needle nose vise grips and pulled DIRECTLY on the cable but the paper clip method worked great for me. Hope this helps someone!
Are you following cclive's instructions here? Might want to read through the thread for other ideas too.
Ok, I took the rear carpet off and got a good look at the set-up. I did as the writer above said and moved both the arm the key moves and the actual cable the arm moves in all combinations of five with no response.

OK All, I got it figured out. The car has an aftermarket stereo with rear view camera. The camera fits on a bracket that is behind the rear license plate and holds it in the middle of and slightly above the plate. Well it was just enough in the way that the key was not getting full travel out of it hence not getting into program mode. Three screws and all is good. Thank you to everyone who helped.
