They might have the same "MN6" (or MM6?) option code, but they aren't the same transmission. The Z06 TR6060 and T56 have a 30-spline mainshaft -- or output shaft. The standard C6 manual transmissions (T56 and TR6060) have a 27-spline shaft, which is the weak-link at high power levels. Ask me how I know!
I know the Z06 output shaft is larger, but I'm not sure about the others. I was just sharing the rated torque capacity for each transimssion.
ZR1=650lbs ft
Z06 and non Z51=500lbs ft
Z51=430lbs ft

Yeah, I guess my point was that I find it hard to believe that the Z06 and base C6 TR6060 have the same torque capacity rating. The 30-spline shaft makes the Z06 box a lot stronger.
FWIW, the GS TR6060 (2.97 st gear) also has the 30-spline shaft and uses the Z06 differential. It's basically a Z51 TR6060 with the Z06 mainshaft. Again, not sure if GM changed the torque rating on it -- but they should have.

Thanks for all of the advice. I would LOVE a Z06. It's a possibility that I'll be able to get one, but all of the one's I've seen in the low $40k's have been pretty high mileage or rough. Maybe I'll score a good deal when it comes time to buy. I need to stay within my budget for now as I'll also be house shopping at the same time. Do you think I can actually get a Z06 that hasn't been destroyed for under $40K?
All of the modding I'll do will be based on overtime. I'm not a rich guy. Please keep the comments and opinions coming.
