Default **Experienced Advice needed Re:Cam Question**

Hello Fellows,
I am needing some input here, I have a 09' C6 and Im in the process of adding headers and CAI soon, I am contemplating a cam here. My best friend has a 08' C6Z. He has recently done a ton of motorwork and removed his stock heads/cam etc. I know the heads will not work or at least I have been told they will not, But I have been told the cam will. I was told the stock C6Z cam is much bigger than the C6 cam due to it being in a 427ci motor. Does anyone know if this will make much HP difference in swapping this out or if it would even be worth it. And does anyone know cam sizes on both cams?
Thanks again guys;
Scottie

LS3 cam: 204/211 .551/.525 117

I wouldn't go through the trouble of swapping your LS3 cam for the LS7 -- there are better aftermarket choices. It could be a decent stealth FI cam, but that's probably it. The LS7 cam is also designed to use 1.8 rockers, so it's lift is reduced to .560/.557 with the LS3 1.7 ratio.

The LS7 heads are great, but I don't know how well they fit a 4.065" bore. The bigger valves might cause some problems. Several companies are now making their own small and medium bore LS7 heads that are designed to work properly on these engines.

Maybe someone else knows more about this than me?

Very informative info. Thanks again, I was wondering if the stock LS7 cam would be worthy of installing!

For the cost and/or effort of removing/replacing the everything related to a cam swap, I think you'd be very disappointed with the results of the stock LS7 cam. The good news is, you don't need a big cam to make a nice gain over the stock LS3 cam in your Corvette. If you want a 50-60 rwhp gain with exceptional street manners, you can do it with a 222/230 cam on a 115-116LSA.

PatrickG or we can set you up with a cam that makes sense....
If your looking to do heads as well we can take care of that topo, just comes down to what characteristics your looking for.
