Default Corvette specliast in Austin Area?

My 2005 Ls2 has 105,000 miles on it. I bought this vette used at 98,000. It recently dropped to 0 psi oil pressure while driving easy to a near by store. I pulled over and shut if off. Started it back up but still had no oil pressure. I was close to home so I babbied it home. It was knocking slightly when i pulled into my garage so I am skeptical to run it anymore.

Where can I take it in the Austin area besides the dealer? I assume I will need a rebuild and if so I will build it up but who should I take it to?

No idea who to take it to in your area.

I am surprised these cars do not a fuel cut off switch from no oil pressure if that is the case.

Have you pulled the oil dipstick to check if there are metal flakes in the oil?

I had a 454 I ran mobil 1 in. The oil pump screen fell off the oil pump and didnt know about it at first. I was going down the highway and notice the 0 oil pressure. I had the car towed back to my house. I started it the next morning. There was no knocks or anything else related to no oil pressure. I pulled the engine out and tore it down. The engine got so hot from no oil pressuse it was cracked from the 2 center mains to the cam bearings. The connecting rods in that area when turned blue. I can safely say that mobil 1 kept the parts lubricated that the engine didn't lock up.

Take it to Lethal Performance in San Antonio. You will have many options. It sounds like your oil pump gave out on you. As you drove it home, you might have spun a bearing and the rod or rods are knocking. Good luck.

or you can check out Hill Country; see this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/sout...stin-area.html

(one of the shops mentioned is "Henderson Performance in New Braunfels. The owner is Cory Henderson. http://www.hendersonperformance.com")

I've also heard this name before but don't know anything about him. He's in Cedar Park.

just saw that Reckart is a CF vendor: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...ce-tuning.html

now you have at least three or four choices!

Auto Tek in South Austin (Ben White near Lamar/Manchaca) is a very good shop with lots of experienced Techs and a really good EFI Tuner.

Check out Reckart. I havent dealt with them personally but I have met a few others that have had mods\etc done there and havent had any complaints. There is also Henderson in New Braunsfeld but that may be a long drive\tow.

That being said, what does the digital read out of the oil psi read? Mine gauge was showing 180 psi and the digital would show 180 and it would drop to 0 then read XXX. It ended up being the sensor. I bought a new one at autozone and replaced myself. Not saying that is what is going on with your car, but it could be. Im closing in on 90k on my 05.

He's done a lot of work on my car so I can highly recommend him. He tracked down a head problem for me and did an excellent job.

Reckart Performance Tuning +3. He's in Cedar Park now. I know I couple guys who use him and say he's the man. Mostly does tuning but can build you a motor too.

I have been thinking about adopting a 13-14 year old with good mech. aptitude and having him trained as a Corvette mechanic.

The strategy worked well when I owned back-to-back Triumph TR-6s (British Leyland). Much cheaper than taking the cars to the shop.
Fun to drive but they averaged about 30% up time.
