OK, track season is coming and I need to start adding some things to my 2010 Grand Sport. Two questions...
1. Will adding CAI to the car change or affect it to the point it won't pass Maryland emmission inspection or I'll get any trouble from them?
Not sure how strict they are down there but in most cases they will NOT even be opening the hood so in my opinion, you shouldn't have a problem at all.
The one potential issue is if it set's off a 'check engine' light on the dash (though again, it shouldn't), that could cause a problem at inspection in some states.

That's not so much a CAI as it is just a scoop that is sometimes used in conjunction with another CAI/filter type of unit and it DOES work. Some people even use that piece along with their stock LS3 filter housing (as your car has) and feel that it does yield some decent results.
I like the Vararam Snake Charmer CAI and have had some stellar results with it. But if I were to go with one of the other more 'closed' (non 'cut shroud') type of filter/air inlet systems then I would likely use the Vette-Air scoop along with it as it's still the closest thing to the awesome performing Vararam that I've seen (other than the Volante system which I have yet to see/hear any results from) so far.
I don't know what your state's inspections are like but if they're not too bad I'd go with a Vararam if you want all out performance for a CAI. The Vette Air is nice but Vararam did a ton of testing to develop the angle & pitch of inflowing air for their system.
LS1LT1,
I bought a Volant last year, runs pretty good. It definately moves a lot of air. My main motivation for buying it over a Vararam was the stock-like looks (strick visual inspections here). I had some issues with the Z-51 oil cooler, just had to remove the bracket & everything was fine after that. You're not going to see a lot of reviews posted about this CAI because 1.) nobody markets it, 2.) It's not cost friendly, and 3.) It's a ****'ing PITA to install. Once I got it in though I was really happy with the way it performed but it was a lot of trouble to go through to get there.
It certainly is a quality (and costly) piece. If I were to ever get one of those I would definitely use it along with the above mentioned Vette-Air Air Charger for maximum gains.

The Vette-Air scoop does indeed turn the stock air breather into a CAI. It scoops air from the grille, ~5" in front of the radiator and discharges the air into the mouth of the air breather, but is not a sealed system. That's where problems pop up. The air being discharged from the Vette-Air causes turbulence across the MAF and the MAF gets pissed.
I had to fabricate a flat diffuser plate(3.5" X 18" X 1/8" plexiglass) and place it across the top of the Vette-Air so the discharged air was directed to the sides of the stock air breather. I get the same cold air, it's just in the form of a blanket of cold air surrounding the air breather, and not being directed directly into the mouth of the air breather. Now my MAF is happy and I get all the benefits of having cold air available for my LS7.
