I have searched everywhere trying to get an idea for what this noise is coming from my car. It sounds like wind howling and happens mainly when I am on the highway. Whether clutch is pressed in or not the sound remains. At time I can play with the gas and make it go away but it comes back out of nowhere. There's nothing I can really do to make it happen. It's extremely loud and annoying. It's probably coming from rear end or transmission.
Ive read some people seem to have similar issues but no one has identified the problem. Someone please help so I know what to replace without having to tear this car apart searching.

Has your '07 Z06 had the roof recall service performed?
Early-production '07s were still being built with the defective polycarbonate roof. When the adhesive that holds it together starts to fail, you'll suddenly hear a wind roar when you exceed a certain speed.
Another possibility is the cowl trim at the base of the windscreen. However, most people with that issue strongly identify the noise as coming from the dashboard area, not from the rear end.
If the sound is changed by using the gas pedal it is probably drive-line related (drive shaft, transmission, rear end, wheel bearings, etc). It could also be the exhaust rubbing and vibrating somewhere especially if it has been modified.
I think the roof de-lamination does not apply to a Z06 as they had fixed roofs. (Please correct me if I am wrong).
Wheel bearings will make a howling noise, but will quiet down if turning one way or another if it's the front wheel bearings. The back ones will howl pretty much all the time when their bad.
I've replaced many on my other GM vehicles in the past.
ive noticed the noise mainly happens when i am in 6th gear. Once in a while it will do it in 5th. Never heard it in any other gears. So the noise seems to appear depending on load?
OP, I have a 2007 Z with 14k miles, and a very similar noise. It is intermintent, and only happens when drive train is lightly loaded, just cruisin along around 2,000 RPM's. I have determined it to be the ring and pinion that likes to howl at just the right time with a very light load on the drive train. I am not even too bothered by it, just add a little gas and it goes away Honestly, mine only does it sporadicly so not going to worry about. If you find something more definitive, please pass it along.
I wonder if changing the differential fluid would take care of the problem, might be worth a try,

I believe it to be the ring and pinion as well. I think i will be changing the rear diff fluid tonight although i dont think its going to do anything.
Spoke to RPM and the noise described does not sound like a bad ring and pinion. They seem to believe it is the pilot bearing.
I am finishing up my ZR1 clutch install on my car with new pilot bearing. I will keep you guys posted.
