...and yet another header thread..sorry guys, questions inside:
I am looking into getting LT's in the near future for my '08 coupe and was planning on going ARH. I was doing some research and it looks like ARH takes a bit different approach in their X-pipe location and how/when they reduce from 3" down to 2.5" (for the standard coupe). ARH places the X-pipe fairly close to the end of the headers and then immediately goes into a 2.5" pipe all the way back to tie into the 2.5" axle-back (in my case the OEM NPP). Looks like both LG and Kooks place their X-pipe further downstream and they make the 3" to 2.5" transition right before the axle-back. This allows for the majority of the exhaust up to the axle-back to be 3". What are the advantages/disadvantages of these different approaches? I would think the further downstream one can have a 3" pipe, the better....but who am I to know...lol Any feedback on this? There has to be a reason why ARH decided do to things the way they did.
Also, what is the difference with the '09+ LS3's that the '08's have the same part number as the LS2's (at least for ARH anyway) while the '09+ have their own part number?
While the question really seems like an easy one, it is not. First off anyone who answers this other than ARH will not know why the actually did this. Kooks also used to use a 2.5 inch pipe all the way back, it was eliminated about a year ago. I don't think it was for a performance reason as to why they did away with it, personally I would like to have it back.
Anyways any system you choose I am sure will be just fine. The 09 exhaust on the LS3 is different, the changed the way the pipes route around the trans and up and over the axles.
