Default Cold air 63-3073 K&N

Tell me,
What is it that makes that there are 17 hp more by installing this product 63-3073 K & N?
What is there more in this filter?
Why the original air filter does not give?
For 17 more hp, what is it's worth the price? ($ 385)

Thank you !

It's not a Cold Air intake. K&N doesn't advertize it as cold air.

They have always had outrageous HP claims for their filters. Their filters may have less restriction and you only have to buy them once since they can be cleaned and reused.

It's a good piece, but to really get the full benefit out of it you'll need to prop open the shroud beneath it to feed cool air to it.

I used it for a long time before installing my supercharger.

A lot of the CAI companies have HP charts for their product and the HP numbers claimed come in at 140+ mph.

That is true, but not for what you are thinking. It is because those numbers are coming off a chassis dyno. On a dyno it calculated wheel torque, it is basically in simple terms measure time vs. drum speed of the dyno on your pull. It is assumed that for all runs to be compared on fair levels the tranny is in a 1:1 gear ratio which is fourth gear. Now this differs between the later automatics etc, but this is the assumed measurement. So in 4th gear at redline in a C5 or C6 or really anything with a 3.42 ratio and 1:1 on the trans you are approx 148mph wheel speed. The power measurement really has nothing to do with the speed other than the dyno is using that amount of time it takes to accelerate to that speed for its calculation. The air speed is not 148 mph, on most dyno's I have seen the outside air speed is not even 45mph so technically in a real case scenario at 80mph you may see more air flowing into the filter. That would be something I would like to see accurate data on. This is all assuming the dyno is an inertia dyno, if it is a eddy current they could run it in any gear and should technically get the correct rwhp. So your statement is correct, but there is a technical reason why it is and not because something is being done sneaky.
