Default Shifter box bushings

I'm getting ready to install an MGW shifter in my 2008 and I want to have new shifter box bushings ready (the rubber ones). I realize a few places sell them for about $20, but I was wondering if anyone has found them at a hardware store or anywhere else? Surely if the size matches up you could grab a set for much cheaper. Anyone have the measurements? Thanks

It's only $20 - why bother looking for something cheaper. $20 will buy you 2 sets...

I'm sure you could find something when you match up old and new side by side, it may just take some trial and error.

One of the former Forum members (Mez) did the search for replacement bushings, found them, bought a bunch of them, modified them and supplied an installation kit. The quantities needed for a good price determined a bulk purchase so he's re-packaging them. His bushings are for sale from a number of CF Vendors.

Several vendor sells the original (Mez) bushings. Gotta give him credit for all the research. $20 buys you two sets - after you installed the first set, the second set just going to die due to shelf life, unless someone else can use it.

IMO, better deal and quality is go to Zip, another CF vendor, he has Poly bushings, a far better choice. HTH!

Replacing these bushings, an easy and cheap job, will reward you with a lot of satisfaction with your car. The shifter gets sloppy over time and you don't realize it, when you replace the bushings, it make it feel like a new tight car again.

The stock ones are pretty soft. I'll probably upgrade to the poly ones, as I've already replaced mine once at less than 10K.

Can anyone that has replaced theirs with the poly bushings comment on how it feels? Any increase in vibration or noise? Specifically when used with an aftermarket shifter like the MGW?

How would poly bushings be better? They are harder so vibrations & noise would be worse. Check with the guys that went with poly suspension bushings.

2 sets for $20 w/$3 shipping for the rubber vs $13 w/$8 shipping for one set of poly? doesn't seem like a whole lot of price difference to me.

Mine are billet aluminum. I purchased the poly but never used them.
No issues, no noise, just solid MGW shifts.

For one, the currently available $20 rubber bushing set are not purpose built, it is what is available to filled the need.

Secondly, in terms of durability/longevity, there is simply no contest due to rubber having short shelf life, especially the environment rubber exposed to is heat and vibration.

I have no comments on using poly suspension bushings especially I am using Pfadt trans mount, as you can see, I am in the performance camp, I don't even listen to music while I drive.

I have to agree with you on shipping/handling charges. Most company just tagged on that hidden charge for profit without remorse. For some with good business practices, even free ground shipping applies or they make discount concession for us in Hawaii!!

I went ahead and bought the bushings from a vendor. It came with 4 bushings, so I'm selling 2 of them in case someone else is looking for a set. $10 shipped. PM me if you're interested.
