Default Thermostat question/suggestion

Ok so I am thinking of getting my 05 tuned and most everyone recommends a 160* thermostat. Is there a brand that is better, does anyone have the part numbers, and are they difficult to install?

Thanks,

Josh

Not difficult to install. Drain coolant, then remove two bolts on the thermostat housing near where the lower radiator hose attaches, and install new thermostat. I don't think brand really matters, they all do the same thing.

stock is like 187. After doing a lot of research on this forum, I settled on Lingenfelter 180 vs the 160. You're also a Northern guy so you might keep that in mind for cooler days. Boils down to moisture in oil and producing enough heat on drives to boil that off. I've been pleased with the 180, I'd say it cuts 15 degrees F off of the temp gauge as car moves. I did not reprogram fans so with AC on in stop/go driving, it's no different than stock. Also added Water Wetter ... it might do something, can't really tell to be honest. Lingenfelter sells both therms ... if you're going heavier on mods (blower, TT, ...) 160 should be a consideration

Consider using the OEM gasket from the original stat and put it on your 160, I picked this hint up from another member; it works well.

I went with the 180 upon the recommendation of my tuner. It has worked out just fine with my other bolt ons.
