Default when to change brake pads?

i have 18k miles on my 07 coupe
not sure when i should change the pads
aslo is it easy to change them? is bleeding needed when changing pads?
what pads to go with i do autocross like less then 10 events a year
i know there is hp + and carbotech , just not sure what is better( is that noise and dust worth it?)

then in the future i want to get bigger brake kit, what big brake kit would fit stock c6 wheels and still be much better performing then stock, or close to z 06 brakes?
i use bigger wheels for every day driving , but using stock wheels for autox, that is why i can't get as big of a kit like z 06
thanks

You don't replace by miles you replace by the wear. When you check them the minimum thickness should be 2/32 or more. If you use the same pads as replacements you don't need to resurface the rotor as it will already have the proper transfer layer on it.

Replacing the pads is easy. Just pull the wheel off, use a tool to push the pistons back into the caliper, unfasten the top guide pin bolt (15mm head) and rotate the caliper backwards. If the hose isn't quite long enough use a jack to raise the control arm and caliper so it can tilt far enough back to allow removal of the old pads and installation of the new pads. The pad with the wear sensor should be placed in the inboard position with the wear tab on the trailing edge. Tilt the caliper back into place, tighten the guide pin and go to the next wheel. Piece of cake. If you determine you need to replace the rotors then you will have to remove the caliper bracket (the part the caliper is bolted to). The bolts that hold the bracket on have 21mm heads and are on very tight. When you reinstall them you will need to tighten them to 125 lb-ft. Everything is a piece of cake except removing those caliper bracket bolts if you don't have an impact wrench or a long breaker bar. The bolts for the rear brackets are really hard if you aren't using a lift since you don't have enough room to move the wrench.

Some shops would recommend it. I don't resurface rotors just because I change pad materials. The new pads will replace the previous transfer layer in a short time. Initially there may be less brake capability at the limit but the harder you use the brakes the sooner the new pads will replace the layer.

If your rotors are scored or mechanically damaged in some way then you need to turn them or replace them.

I don't know whether the LG G Stop kit would work on the base C6 but it worked on C5s that had the stock 17 inch C5Z front wheel installed. The kit isn't too pricey and works great. I had it installed on my C5Z for about 4 years and did a lot of track days with it. Consumables were low cost which was a big advantage. Call LG and find out what they say about fitment.
