Can anyone tell me how to disconnect the shifter assembly from the linkage?
I have the console torn down and the shifter unbolted but when I lift it it is (obviously) still connected to the linkage by a ball joint or something. Not much room to move around without damaging something. Is it a ball joint that I can pry apart? special tool needed?
Got it. Lift assembly and gently twist clockwise. Bingo!
It was a pain for me too. You have to have the twist degree just right to get it off. Once youre there its a piece of cake as you found out. You do the DSV replacement?

It snapped back together fairly easy too!
Haven't done the DSV upgrade yet but now that I can get it done in a half hr or less its on top of my list. I'll spend what I saved fixing the shifter.

Thanks in advance for the.help.
I have to make the same repair and am wondering what the connection actually is between the control and the transmission cable.
