Hello all, I'm going to go out of town and while there, remove a 6-disc changer and upgrade to a stock Nav system. I have to bring the correct TOOLS with me to get the job done.
From what I gather, the procedure should take about 20-30 minutes assuming I have [all] the right tools!
Here is what I THINK I need:
1. A 7mm nut driver to remove the two bolts on the pass side trim panel
2. ? to remove the rear instrument panel accessory trim plate (the screws under those plugs in the console)
3. A Torx 25 (T25) to remove the shift **** (not sure if I need this step or if I can just position the shift lever.)
4. A 7mm nut driver to remove the radio and HVAC units
And lastly, a couple Zip ties to secure the Nav antenna or perhaps Double sided tape to stick it to the driver side center vent-top.
Any assistance would be appreciated on this. I don't want to end up missing some crucial tool! The radio will be programed at a dealer if needed also!
Torx bit req'd for console removal is T15, not T25.
You'll probably need a small tweeker type flat blade screwdriver to get at the clips on the electrical connectors unless you have very tiny hands.
Shift **** doesn't have to come off. If car is a stick you can unhook bottom part of shift boot from console and leave ****/boot on shifter. IIRC it's easiest to remove console with it in 4th.
Cover e-brake handle with masking tape (or remove it) to prevent scratches from console.
Be VERY careful not to overtorque screws on console lid when reinstalling. They strip out the holes with little to no effort.
If you have any trouble post a new thread in the audio section.
From what I've read, new HU will probably work fine in accessory mode, then go into security lockdown once you start the car. If you think of it, please let me know if that's what actually happens.
you may want to get some plastic pry bars
they are little ones designed for interior removal
not 100% necessary, just may help you
it is SOOOOOOOOOOO easy to do, even i can do it lol

Yeah, I'm well aware of the requirement of the Tech to to "relearn" the vin. I just want to make sure I have all the tools as I'm going to be AWAY from my garage and if I forget something I'm toast.
There is a larger torx screw on the manual trans gear shift ****, and you will also need a small thin screw driver to release the inside console power port connector. At the top of the lighter socket just below the bottom of the console. The antenna is a B@$%h to install I had several long articulated needle nose pliers in order to install the pins, one I managed to install top down, the other was from the bottom up. Take an assortment of Torx drivers, a 1/4" metric socket set, phillips and slotted drivers, and the above mentioned long nose and you will be fine.
