Just a little background...although I just registered to this forum. I am constantly
reading and learning from all the different post. Forums all around rock!
Previously, I owned a '03 Z06 (my first corvette), and I am currently in a '07
C6.
I have spent the last week or so reading up on the 'service charging system' possible
issues and different diagnostics everyone has done. I have done just about everything
and I am running out of options and I am seeking other alternatives.
My car of course indicated I need to SCS. Like most of us, we either changed/replaced
alternator/battery. I have done both.
Here is my dilemma, it still says SCS. After I replaced my alternator and tested my
battery to be good. The message went away and car was fine for about a week. Message
popped up again, which lead me to come here and read up on some info.
It is now saying SCS again and it is an intermittent thing. It comes and goes. Almost,
like there is a short. However, as of yesterday I checked for loose wires, nuts,
connections, dirty ports, you name it and it all checked out okay. I was almost
positive I would find a loose connection and solve my problem.
As of last night, since I removed the battery to check for loose connections, of course
the message reset like the first time I replaced the alternator and battery. So,
as of right now...no message is being displayed. I am certain after driving a little
more...it's going to come up again.
FYI - I am stock, minus cat back and intake. No major aftermarket mods. No headers...no aftermarket spark
plugs.
Is it possible, I just need to delete the code in the history and hope for the
best??? What else can I check for?
Any green around the battery connection? Is there a good and I mean good connection on the battery. No looseness at all. Are you sure of the connections down by the starter?
No green corrossion what so ever around the battery terminals. My positive post did have a slight looseness to it, however, the connection is nice and tight. The loose part comes when tightning the bolt down, moves slightly when too tight, but connection is good. I will
look into it further.
As to the starter, I am going to take it to my buddies shop so I can get it up on a lift and get a better look/angle. I did this last night in my garage with a floor jack and stands. From what I could see and feel, it seem to be okay, but I had already planned on taking a better look.
Thanks for the replies fellas. I hope to resolve this issue soon.
I have had this code come up after turning down the knock sensor sensitivy. So i just went into the computer and turned the codes off and it went away.
Alternator wire too close to coil or sparkplug wire can cause SCS. My bet is on the starter wiring at the solenoid. Keep us posted and good luck with it.
Thanks fellas. I am taking it to my buddies shop this weekend to get it up on the lift and get a much better look. I will keep everyone posted and hopefully I can get this issue resolved.

I had the same problem in my 07 and it turned out to be that I had damage to a plug wire an pulse technology plugs in the car. My mechanic found out because there was also an engine code with the SCS error. Have you scanned the computer for codes yet?
The dealer told me it was the battery but the SCS warning came on within an hour of leaving the dealer.
There is also a fuse for this. The same one as the horn. Check those connections also.
Hi all, I got a 2012 gs and recently flash SErvice charging syStem error. I took it to dealer and they told me the the horn fuse is blown. They also check the horn and it does pulling 8 - 9 amps. In my opinion it it quite high for a horn I believe.
I personally ask the tech who work on my car and he seems not so sure either why it is pulling that much current and told me to just observe... Not quite a good answer.
Does anyone knows how much current the horn pulls?
Thanks.
