I purchased a used C6. Did a check of the brakes due to squealing. Calipers have metal shims installed that are normally used to keep the pads from squealing(metal clips that come with brake pads). I did some research on the forum and no one has mentioned installing these when doing a brake job. Are the metal clips used on the C6 calipers?
Depending upon the pads you buy, they may come with more clips than are actually used. What should be used are the thin shims between the backs of the pads and the calipers (usually already on the pads), and the U shaped guide pieces that fit into the caliper brackets where the pads slide in and out on them.
The thin metal parts inside the caliper bracket pad abutments don't do anything to eliminate squeal. They provide a surface for the pad to slide on. The funny shaped thing that fits on top of the pads is just a spring to keep them in place. Stock pads will squeal and most good aftermarket pads will squeal as well. Ceramics don't seem to squeal but don't have the same stopping power as the stock pads.
If you buy the GM Pad Replacement Kit you will get new abutment plates, a new spring and two new caliper guide pin bolts. Aftermarket pads usually don't come with the hardware so it has to be purchased at extra cost if you want new parts.

i just went through this exact same problem one month ago.i bought new ceramic pads and drilled rotors for my new 2012 coupe(strictly for cosmetic purposes only and bought them from one of cf vendors). bedded them the correct way and one week later they squeeled like crazy. called up the vendor and he said no need to use silicone on the backs and promptly sent me a brand new set of pads for free. put them on WITH the anti squeel goo on the back of the pads and haven't heard a peep since. come to think of it i have been doing the brakes on every car i have owned plus friends and family and have never NOT used the anti squeel goo. i apply it very fine so as not to see it when the brakes are used for the first time and nothing squishes out. i have never had a squeeling problem with this method. just my 2 cents.
