Default Quick observations over the last day

After nearly eleven years in the C5, I finally made the plunge into the C6 world yesterday with a Carlisle Blue GS. Here are some of my quick observations after a day.

We’ve heard the car being described as a C5.5. I disagree and state it is a C6. This car is a full step up. I had ~14k miles on the C5 so it was hardy used. The C6 is much tighter with a more solid feel. To me, it feels less racer and more GT. I traded the C5 and purchased the C6 from Mike Furman at Criswell Chevrolet (by all means make the trip if you are wanting to purchase one) so I had a 250 mile trip back to Pittsburgh. The trip was more comfortable back home than down to the dealership. The C6 seats have fuller bolsters and, at least for my shape, fit me quite well. There was NO wind noise at the door glass targa meeting I had with the C5. I was somewhat concerned about the 325 tires making noise and tracking groves but had no issue over the nicer roads of Maryland and the poorer roads of Pennsylvania. The GS corners better and is less darty on bumps.

The console pieces are nice and tight. I hated the floppy upper right corner of the trim above the C5 radio. The console cover opens far easier in the C6. Although getting used to the nav/radio controls it does look more modern. I like the radio controls on the steering wheel and this does make it somewhat less distracting while driving and changing channels/volume. The hatch and hood seem to close easier with less of a slamming motion or the second push to secure them.

All in all, the C6 is better than the C5 and should be. If you are on the fence, I would recommend the upgrade and not just wait for the C7. You can always get that car in the future as well. I know that is my plan after enjoying the C6 for a few years.

EXCELLENT!!!

Welcome to the C6 section!!

BTW, I (along with many others on the forum) wasn't quite sure how CB would look on a C6. But your car looks great!!!

Just a couple of things, and you'll be learning a lot more over time.

You CAN lock the fob in the car!!! There are some dead spots in the cockpit, but the biggest dead area is the hatch. If you have your fob in your gym bag, briefcase, etc., throw it in the hatch, and then close the hatch, the hatch locks immediately and you won't be able to open it unless you have another fob or a key.

There's a button over the license plate, but it just won't work when the fob is in the cargo compartment - the fob has to be outside the rear of the car.

There's a key hole above the license plate - MAKE SURE YOUR KEY WORKS IN IT!! There have been a number of cases where the cable up to the latch is not connected properly and the key won't open the hatch.

The key is in the fob!!! If you lock the fob in the car, your key is probably in there too!!!

Get another key cut (Saturn key blank B106) that you can carry in a separate place like your wallet, or maybe hide under the car.

Is it a manual transmission???

If it is a manual you have the dry sump oil system with the battery in the cargo compartment. There have been a lot of horror stories here on the forum about the low level mechs in a dealership that do the oil changes servicing the dry sump system wrong. They pry the sealed cap off the valve cover and add oil there, and it can do serious damage, such as trashing the engine from hydrolocking it. The oil should be added to the dry sump tank.

Again, welcome, and let us know if you have any questions - you've got a wealth of info available here!!!

Bob

Glad to welcome another Western-PA C6 owner to the Forum. When you say "poorer roads of Pennsylvania", we know that really means "worst roads in the country".

The '05's were C5.5's. The manuals still had the column lock and a lot of C5 electric/computer residuals. The auto still had the A4 tranny.

I just did the same thing you did. I traded in my 2004 CE Coupe for a 2012 GS Coupe, Auto in Supersonic Blue.

I especially liked not having the wind noise of the C5, the much more supportive seats, and solid feel of the C6.

Definitely was time for an upgrade.
