Default A6 driveline issue/Check Engine

Took the car out of storage yesterday, drove 20 miles or so no problems. Today decided to go for a longer drive. About 45 minutes out I was traveling on the interstate, steady speed of about 65, slight downhill curve, the driveline acts as if the engine uncoupled from the transmission. RPM dropped off to idle and car started slowing down. Stepped on the gas engine RPM went up but car did not speed up for several seconds. Then the transaxle felt as if slammed back into gear and check engine light came on. I was in drive and not using the paddle shifters at the time. Continued down the ramp and onto the next road. Engine runs fine but car would not drop into top gear. Made several stops on the way home, after the first stop the trans shifted fine. After the third stop, which was longer, when I started the car no check engine light. Ran fine all of the way home. No way to read the codes until Monday if they saved. Thoughts?

Not much to go on but I'd say you'll probably find a P0700 and P1825. The 1825 indicates a faulty Internal Mode Switch (IMS).

We've seen several discussions here. What is interesting is that quite a few have resolved on their own with apparently no further complaints and others have required a repair that involves dropping and disassembling the trans to replace the offending switch.

Advice at this point, just be careful and be aware of what the car is doing. Don't drive it real hard and if it hiccups again give it a rest and restart. You may never have another problem or........well, let's hope no more problems.

Please let us know what happens.

Low trans fluid level just might be able to cause those problems.

Checking requires car up in the air on a level rack, engine running (don't shut it off!!!), trans fluid within a certain temp range, remove a bolt to check for dribble. Dextron 6 fluid if needed, nothing else is acceptable.

Hoping for an easy solution.

Update on this issue. Took the car in and found Code P2714 00 Solenoid. PC solenoid control assembly, controls the shifts between 1/2 and 5/6. It stuck in between positions but it is fine now. Have to drop the pan and pull the valve body to replace. The dealer said they will replace it if I ask them to even if does not happen again, under warranty. Will drive it some more but I will probably have it replaced before we go to Virginia next month.

Thanks for the update. That is not as common a problem as the one I mentioned. IMO you should definitely get it replaced. All the best.
