Default LS2 AI head swap (pics)

Finally got around to it, pulling the heads and taking lots of pics for you guys, enjoy.

Going with Phil's 226 ported 243's.

Basic head swap with checking the ptv with clay, over the next few days-

Vararam
FAST 102
Ported TB
Smooth couplers
Descreened maf
Dynatech 1 7/8 C6Z LT's
GHL C6Z cb
UD Pulley
EPS 234/242/603/605/112+4 cam
Dual Valve springs/TI retainers
11/32 push rods

Now- heads

Then 102 TB, LS3 maf, balancd injectors and a retune

Alright, everything is apart.

I did remove some extra stuff to change a few things, IE the motor mounts for one. Very easy w/o the heads and the exhaust. My pass side motor mount was split wide open, fluid dripping out. Went with the Hinson short mounts

I remove the ABS bracket so I can easily get to the head and the power steering bracket, once pulled a few less bloody knuckles

More to follow-

Here are the (2) checker springs to replace the dual, in order the easily compress the valves without preloading the lifter.

Good luck with the head swap, Phil is a great guy to work with. I loved my AI heads when they were on the car, made 485/440 with similar mods and a smaller 234/234 @ 114 .598/.612 lift cam.

Your car will be a monster when she's put back together!

Please take detailed pictures of the PTV clay checking. I might be doing something similar down the road and would love another great pictorial to reference. I printed out your cam swap long and ago and it was priceless.

Thanks and good luck

Phil is telling me between 40-50rwhp with my current setup. Either way it will be decent. I'll keep it updated as I get it buttoned up.

Good luck with the swap! It's not bad at all except for the power steering reservoir. I think you notched yours when you did the cam? That is the hot tip.

You're smart for doing it in March vs. August when I did it....check out the sweaty pics.

Are you going with thinner head gaskets to increase quench and compression.

Jason, I am also awaiting heads from AI. I purchased Sean's Heads and am waiting for them so I can get my car buttoned up. Just curious..... what did they give you for a timeframe to get your work done? Thanks. Ryan.

Yep, notched the pump long ago

I'm going to measure the PTV exactly but I'm only going to mill it a minimum at best.

You jackass, I wanted those (J/K).

Phil told me 10-20 days and this is my DD so I'm screwed for a bit, oh well. I'll port my FAST while it's off too-

Well the heads are on the way to AI

Bad news, I did not get to even check the PTV so I will not be milling anything off the heads. As I was in the middle of yanking the rack (on my only day off to do it) my daughter (2yrs old) was running through the kitchen, slipped and smacked her mouth onto the tile floor. Busted her lip severly, nearly knocked out 2 teeth and bruised her whole face.

Ohwell-

I'll still update the thread but no PTV how to but she is doing just fine-

Yeah, little kids bleeding from the face is always concerning. I've had a couple close calls with my 2 boys.

Tell Phil your cam specs and he will most likely tell you estimated PTV and potentially milling recommendations. Hell, if you're bored, send him the cam and he can Cam Dictor it and give you exact measurements.

If my car was not my daily driver, I wouldn't have a problem but since it is, I had to get it going and done asap.
