Break in oil?
I was always told not to use synthetic oil for break in. Do are cars really come w/ Mobile 1 or is it a special oil. Are the engines already broke in on a dyno before we get them, I tried the search function w/ no luck ?
They come with Mobil 1 5w 20 and it's not a break in oil. Read your manual about breaking it in. I think my 05 said 500 miles but that's not for the engine it's for the gears in the trans and differential. The brakes need breaking in also.
Also, your engine would have made 185-190 at 10 miles...there is no break-in for the engine, the rings are seated by the time you pick your car up. That's the result of GM using moly rings with a plateau finish honing process...they've been doing it that way for many years. The break-in is mainly for the ring and pinion, brakes, and somewhat for the transmission.

Thank-you San, so that implies that the new ring technology breaks in very quickly, or the engines are run on a dyno and pre - broke in. Either way the old advice about break in oil does not seem to apply here!

You learn who to listen to and who to ignore on this forum. I listen to glass slipper and I suggest you do as well.

You mean 5w30 not 5w20 right or did they make a change since my 2008 was built?
