Default LS2 HP Questions

If one assumes standard physics - more power means more energy burned -- Assuming what I have heard is true my base 07 LS2 has o/a 400HP at the crank and probably puts about 330 to 335 to the wheels. Have been told a dyno tune can put around 399 at the wheels give or take. What does this do to gas milage - not worried about it -- just curious?

A dyno tune wont get a stock LS2 car anywhere near 399rwhp. Not sure where you heard that from. A tune can help increase fuel mileage because some of the increase in power is attributed to a leaner air fuel ratio.

Default Ls2 hp

See that's why I ask the question I was told by the tuner it would bump her up to that....I would expect to see a fairly significant change in performance characteristics: better throttle response...and a bit more power but I questioned that much of a boost.

If a tuner told you that your stock LS2 with a tune would make 399rwhp I would look for a different tuner.

You'll pick up 10-15rwhp from a tune and probably somewhere around 2mpg

Your tuner reminds me of an old school hot rodder. I know a bunch of those guys who still live in the 70's; their BS is worse than the tall tales fishermen tell. One guy I knew put a Chrysler Big block with a dual carb tunnel ram (looked impressive) in a 37 Studebaker coupe with a custom 4link chassis and claimed it would run 9's. Finally took it to the track after a few years of BS and it ran a 12

Don't expect a MPG increase from a tune unless you are at full throttle all the time. The way I understand it;

A tune doesn't affect the Air/Fuel ratio where you do 90% of your driving, the Computer constantly adjusts the A/F ratio to the best for emissions unless you are running full throttle. Full throttle the tuner can change A/F ratios. There are no available tuner A/F changes for part throttle running.

I was told about 30 HP, not sure if that's rear wheel or crank, does that sound about right? Tune would run a little over $400 so I was told, again, sound right?

My '05 stick with just an axleback was 346RWHP on local Dynos, after a Tune w/headers/hi flow cats and a CAI it was 379RWHP.

Pretty much what everybody was getting with an honest Dyno. Some Dynos/Tuners are noted for being very optimistic about RWHP readings.

My '08 A6 was 373RWHP on local dynos, still stock.

Same dyno? 373 seems like a bit much from an auto. Seems about right for a manual though.

Most of you guys don't realize how your tuners tune on the dyno. "Alot" of them throw a little bit of timing in low load cruse areas and rape you PE table and add timing accordingly. Will you see an increase in WOT performance, yes... Will you see an increase in MPG highly doubtful.

400HP LS2 will dyno 345 manual, 335 auto; -55HP stick, -65HP auto

436HP LS3 will dyno 380 manual, 370 auto: -51HP stick, -63HP auto

Seems pretty close.

10-15hp max. Power comes from ignition timing. If your car doesn't need any more, like mine, than a tune won't add much power at all. But there are plenty of added benefits, and a good tuner can tell you many of the additional changes they can make such as the temperature in which the fans kick on, skipshift delete, torque management, etc. Depending on your A/F you could conceivably increase your fuel mileage, there are some tricks, too, for lean cruise that the factory doesn't do.
