I currently have a 2007 automatic c6 and wanted to give the car a more aggressive tone. I've looked at multiple exhaust systems borla, corsa, slp, and don't really want to spend close to 1k just to have the car sound louder.
I've done research and found that some members have actually just replaced the muffler itself (ex. magnaflow 11236/14335, dynomax bullets etc.) Has anyone had any experience with swapping out the mufflers?. What part #'s work with the stock pipes (midpipe, tips). Also what type of place can do the welding for the system? Cost?
A few product examples are 1. Dynomax Performance #24215
2. MagnaFlow #11236
3. SLP Performance 310013919
I swapped the OEM units on my 2006 w/ Corsa Sports. They simply replace the OEM units and install very easily in about an hour or so. No welding is required. Like all others, it seems, they were somewhat pricey (this was in 2007) at around $1100.
Check MBRP. I think they are somewhat less and look nice.
Thanks for the response, I know those full catback systems are the best way to go, the only thing is I just don't have the money to spend on a full system. I'm more about just swapping out the muffler itself.
OK jdileo; here is what i know, i have had two C5s a 98 that i put a Borla Stinger system on it, had great sound at idle, out on the highway the drone would make your ears bleed. My 01Z06 i kept stock. Now i have an 07 w/6spd. paddle. After a lot of research i went with Corsa Sport system with X pipe and believe me it cost a bit more but worth every penny. Around town in paddle mode you can make her gurgle on pop from corner to stop light, up on the highway you don't even know it's there, until you lay into it and it comes alive with a sound that will leave you with a smile from ear to ear. Trust me save your $$$ and go for the best. You won't be sorry.
Monitor the parts or sale section of the Forum for a used system. As others have said Corsa's are great; I've been running Corsa Sports for six years now and love them.
Individual parts are more expensive than you think. Go to the Magnaflow site and price #14336 mufflers and tips pf your choice then add in the cost of cutting your overaxle pipes and welding the new mufflers and tips in.
BTW; Cat back means from the catalytic convertor back (which includes the mid pipe). You want an axleback.
I bought my '07, in 2010, with 7k on the odo. It was all stock, but I noticed that the muffler cans had been cut off & then rewelded back on. I'm guessing the previous owner wanted a little more sound, and went the "cheap" route, couldn't stand the drone, and went back to stock. He also flushed the cost of the mufflers and two install charges down the toilet too. I too, thought the car was too quiet. I agonized over my choices for months, listening to many sound clips on the internet, which didn't help at all. I eventually found a used set of Corsa Sports, in the forum classifieds and have been living happily ever after. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, even if I had to pay full retail. They're worth every cent!
Don't ever put a 4 x 9 inch Magnaflow on a C6, that would be #14336. Use the 5 x 8, #14236. This is a much better option when installed by a competent exhaust expert. Most of the kits have problems, the tip positions are very similar, there is no room for individuality. There are many more merits to a custom system.
I have B&B Bullets for sale in the for sale section. Or if that's not your style there is usually a few other members selling other brands for $300-$400 off the new prices.
Thankyou all for the feedback, after doing some research, it still would be pretty costly even to just replace the stock mufflers once you factor in welding, purchasing the bullets and tips. Also when it comes time to sell the car, the stock system would be shot, whereas with a bolt on, it could easily be swapped out and sold. I think im going to go with an axelback. Thanks

Listen to clips of the sounds of different exhausts on Youtube. There are tons of them on there. However, in person, they sound a bit different. My suggestion is to go to as many events as possible to hear different systems IN PERSON. That is your best way to chose.
In the for sale section for C6 parts, you can find good deals. I got a 2007 ZO6 NPP mild to wild muffler with h-pipe for $450 for a forum member. I also got cats and manifold header from a ZO6 from my mechanic who installed the whole system for me. Sweet sounds. I leave it open all the time.
Point is that in the parts section you'll do better, save alot of money, and may even find a deal where you can get the whole system at the price you can afford.
affordable being how much? Most of the systems that I see for sale are still asking too much money. People are asking 500.00 for a LM 2 that can be purchased new for 650.00...
Ive been searching for 6 months...

I'd say 500 and under is a good price for a system..slp new can be costly at 650-700$+ new, then again many places will cover the install costs if you purchase it from them.
