I have a c6 GS Was running around 140 mph when my steering felt heavy, looked at the guages and saw coolant low and coolant temp 260 (OUCH), I backed off and pulled into a gas station about a mile later and coolant was spewing onto the floor, I opened the hood and saw that the pulley on the alternator was loose and threw the belt, I do have edelbroch super charger bolted on as well
CONCERNS
says change engine oil it was 95 percent good obvioulsy the heat destroyed the oil and im not sure if i did any motor damage, no other warning lights came on other than coolant, I put the pulley back on and everythong running normal, other than says change oil i have 1400 miles on the clock , what damage can be done to motor and does motor have a safety shut off thanks any one had similar experience
Its a shame that its not in the instructions, but I have mentioned it here and I think most installers know about it. On a M6 car, when you add an eforce (not sure of other superchargers) you must remove the alternator pulley and put locktite on the bolt. Otherwise................well.........yo u know now.
Mine did the same thing to me last night. I just checked my oil and it looked good. Didn't smell burned. The coolant heated up to just barely 260 degrees but the oil and block where still suprisingly cold. I had a little coolant spew out but it wasn't enough to even get close to being a low fluid level.
I would top off the coolant and drain a little oil to check it out. Where you want to go from there is up to you. My oil checks good. I may change it sooner than normal but I'm not worried about it.
Yeah I noticed the engine was not so hot amazingly enough. Coolant also was not emptied , guess just stops circulating and whats there just boils over. I think ill just be safe and change the oil.I did freak a little as the car is new and I have no chevy dealer in my country so you can imagine how I felt!! phew ...
Yeah. I was actually thinking about it and it does have a seperate oil temp sensor so I may change mine as well to be safe. I got a code for the coolant overheating but it cleared out and never came back. I'm just staying out of boost until I get it changed.
I think my problem is that the adjustable tensioner wasn't tight enough from the start. I think I'm on my 4th belt but one of those was a bad install on my part...
