08 LS3 Oil Change Question

08 LS3 Oil Change Question
Okay i think i got this in the correct forum here. I did a search for this but cannot come up with anything conclusive. A lot of you are going to think this is a very dumb question but like i said i did search so dont roast me too bad 
I just bought a 2008 base model LS3 Vette with 3k mi on it and i want to do an oil change but i keep seeing threads about a dry sump oil system on LS3's and it was to my understanding that those were only on LS7's. So is this a mod some folks are doing or is it a factory option some cars came equipped with?
Also im a long time 4th gen Camaro owner and this is my first C6. Ive never so much as changed a fuse on one of these cars before. Is there anything i should be looking out for on this oil change? Anything that makes an oil change slightly different from other vehicles?
Im going to be using Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic, this car is not a Z51 so it looks like everyone is saying it should take about 5.5 Qts of oil. The filter i plan to use is a Mobil 1 M1-113. Does this all sound right? I just want to make sure so i dont make any mistakes with my new baby. Thanks guys!

You're on the right track. The 2008 LS3 has a wet sump just like millions of other cars on the road. Just change the oil fliter, drain the sump(single drain plug) and add the amount of oil that is specified in your owners manual to the valve cover. You have selected the correct oil and filter for your car.
The refill capacity should be 6 qts. I do the oil changes on my son's 08 LS3 coupe. My 07 LS2 vert only takes 5.5 qts. These are all numbers from the owner's manuals.

Changed the oil earlier.... That was the EASIEST oil change EVER!!! From start to finish. Usually i have to mess with the oil filter on my Camaro a little because the exhaust is kind of in the way. But not with this one! I also couldn't help but admire how pretty and clean this car is underneath! Just straight lines and everything tucked away nice and neat. I love it! I ended up putting 6 full qts in her, it took that to get to my last mark on the dipstick after running it for about 10 seconds with 5.5 qts in her. I didnt look at my manual but im not too concerned. Even if i was about 1/2 qt above I dont see how it could hurt anything since this is not a pressurized hydraulic system like an automatic transmission. But ill crack the book open next time to see what it says.
Anyway, i know you all are probably aware but Auto Zone is running a special right now. 5 qts of Mobil 1 plus a Mobil 1 filter for $32.99..... They have this special quite often as most of you already know but i figured id mention it just incase any of you have been waiting to stock back up. I know I usually get 4-5 oil changes to keep on hand whenever i notice they have the sale so i dont have to constantly check up on it.
Anyway, i know you all are probably aware but Auto Zone is running a special right now. 5 qts of Mobil 1 plus a Mobil 1 filter for $32.99..... They have this special quite often as most of you already know but i figured id mention it just incase any of you have been waiting to stock back up. Interesting... I never get the big jug because I find the smaller ones much easier to maneuver and get into tight areas if I ever need to. But now I'm wondering how much is in those smaller 1 qt containers I'll have to check. I think they deliberately put more in because remember this stuff isn't water thin and you never get it all out. I know most people won't stand there for 30 min waiting on that last drop either.

They must have different ones for Autozone or they changed recently. The jug I bought 6 days ago at Walmart reads 5qt/4.73L for $24.97 and I got a Delco PF48 filter for $3.97.

With my 10.5 qt dry sump, I get two of the 5L jugs at AutoZone and two of the Mobile1 filters for $66. That takes care of one oil change and I have a $13 filter left over. For my next oil change, I get two of the 5 qt jugs at Walmart for $52 + a single qt for $8(and use half of it) and use my left over Mobil1 filter. I have $61 +tax invested in each oil change on my Z06.

Each time I change my oil I do it though in my Jeep the filter goes on at an angle and if you fill it part of it seems to run out so I put in about 75%.

I have always prefilled my oil filters before installing. Doesn't cost anymore in oil, and really doesn't take that much additional time as you have to take the time to smear new oil on the gasket before installing the filter to the engine. Anyway, I let my oil drain for a long time from the oil pan, and while it's slowly dripping I use that time to prepare the new filter and install it, so no time really wasted.

It is a waste of time. That filter fills extremely fast with the oil pump, like water from a hose. If it makes you feel better does not hurt anything unless you spill it on the floor.
