Am contemplating a switch from my 2.73 rear end to the 3.42s. I have read a couple of threads and it seems like the fun factor really goes up. I don't track or strip my car so I'm not looking to improve any numbers there.
I'm looking for advice from you guys that made the switch. Still happy?? Any issues?
I have an A&A kitted supercharger and a CoW tranny tune, awesome already but could be snappier from what I'm hearing.
Chris Seahorn owner of Circl D in Houston builds excellent converters for 6L80 transmission. I just installed a 3200-3400 in my A&A equipped 8#'s of boost/LS7 Exhaust, and 2:73 gears. It was a night and day differance, becasue the converter flashed and engine immediately builds boost. I have flashbacks to PD blower days. ZERO bog in 1st gear and highway gas mileage was not effected. By the way, that is my 3rd Circle D converter for LS powered cars.
Tomorrow Tim Haines Owner Operator of Haines Motorsports with finish my AKLY Control Meth kit, 3.6" pulley and "Gates GREENBELT" and meth tune. If he completes the upgrade in time? We are headed to the track tomorrow for Test & Tune.
Good Luck and Keep Us Posted.

The 3.42's definitely do wake the car up. I think its a better choice than the converter if you never race the car and don't care about quarter mile times. I've had no issues since Chuck did mine and would do it again without a doubt.

That, and that it seems 95%+ of all broken A6s on this board have aftermarket converters is what pushed me to 3.42s.
Both are clearly excellent choices for us A6 guys. Heat kills transmissions and stall converters build more heat that stock units. If anyone ever chooses to install an aftermarket stall converter just make a mental note that an auxillary transmission cooler is not an option.

great answers... and no regrets on highway cruising??
No regrets. It revs about 3-400 rpm more at cruise and uses a bit more gas, but at least it responds to throttle. I used to loaf along at 1600rpm and didn't like that.
After all since the z06 comes with 3.42 gears one would assume that they are the prefered choice as far as gears go.Sorry guys i just couldnt resist. But i have witnessed one convertible with a blower and 3.42 gears that seems to attract attention here in Montreal.
