I just had to do this the other day on mine. I've removed it before and cleaned the pad but for only like $15 new from GM, I won't waste my time with that again haha.
Very easy to remove bud.. With the door open, you should see 2 phillips screw hold the door handle on. Remove those two screw and if the outside unit has never been removed before it will take a little to get it off. Once you pop that loose all you do is unplug the old switch, plug in the new and put it back together. Shouldn't take more than 5 mins.
Update I just changed the door pad on the drivers side where I was having the problem & wham!!! problem solved. Thanks guys for all of your help. Not even 5 mins (4.5 was spent drinking Mich Ultra LOL)
I changed mine but the door still doesn't open. Its clicks, like its engaging and the window comes down like its going to open but the door will not open. It will not open from the inside button either. The only way I can open it now is by the emergency release from the inside. Any ideas??

I have the same problem. I'm thinking it may involve the window indexing. I changed the pad and at the same time, I had the battery disconnected - for another reason - and it seemed to work fine for a day but, I realized I had not re-indexed the windows and, they weren't indexing down when I opened the door. As soon as I re-indexed the windows, the problem came back.
