On my 06 c6, I wanted to get the two inserts painted on both sides of the steering wheel. The auto shop owner pulled the fuse for the airbag, then inserted a small rod into the holes on the side of the steering wheel. There are two holes, one on each side. He inserted the rod on each side until he pushed a pin or rod, and each side popped out. Sorry I couldn't be more exact. Hopefully this gives you a start.
Bandit is correct. There are several threads with photos on the site about it. Just to tell you real quick.
Disconnect the battery. Don't want the airbag to pop.
The are 2 tiny holes, one on each side of the wheel at 4 and 8 o'clock. Use a small allen wrench or something with strength that won't bend to insert in the hole and push straight across toward the other hole. Feel around for a spring that will pop one side of the airbag out. Repeat on the side.
The 05 air bag comes out differant from 06. there are 2 star bolts at the rear but they do not completly release the air bag must need a special tool
No star bolts required to remove.
Use a short Allen wrench (stiff steel tool) to push on the small spring loaded rods holding the retaining forks. The are four on the 2005 C6 steering wheel.
Aim the tip toward the front centerline of the steering wheel. ..and feel for a spring feeling and push, while pulling on that corner of the airbag. It might help to use two tools at once on the left side to get that side started. The tool should be parallel to the tilt steering column vertically, and 45 degrees or so horizontally, aimed at the front center of the airbag.
One of two release points for airbag. Other one is just above. The small silver object is the internal retention, spring loaded rod.
