Default ZO6 Tire Selection

I own an '08 ZO6 and will soon need new tires. What's the consensus out there for Run-flats vs tubeless? Also the quietest tire that's also good on wet pavement? I'm told the new Michelin's Ps 2 are terrible on wet roads. Plan to use Tire Rack for purchase unless better source suggested. Would appreciate any help in making this decision. Thanks, Gary M (toothguycorvette)

I'm running the Bridgestone RE050A run flats. Improvement in all areas over the OE tires. I purchased from a local tire dealer(who has the equipment and the technician) for less then what I would have paid buying from tire rack. Remember, when buying from out of state, you still have to rely on a local dealer to install and balance the tires. Why not give them the profit from the sale of the tires, also. Instead of giving UPS your money to deliver your new tires, give your state the sales tax on your new tires, when buying local. Maybe then they won't be asking for a sales tax increase in the near future in order to fund your school system, your police dept, your fire dept, etc. If you do happen to have a problem with your new tires, you are dealing with one company, not two, to get the problem resolved,

Default ZO6 Tire choices

Thanks for the response. I hear what you are saying. I do have an authorized Tire rack Dealer near by that I have done business with for many years...I plan on asking them for a diurect quote, but wanted more info from the Forum about what tire(s) to consider.

Depends on price you want to spend. I run NT05's but don't drive in the rain. By looking at the tred I don't think I want to either. Great traction otherwise.

I've been in the rain on my NT05's. Just need to be more vigilant. Not scary or uncontrollable as some would have you believe.

Nitto INVOs are great all weather performance tires.

Check with several dealers, especially ones that are dealers for the tires you are wanting. When I was getting quotes, the best price for the Bridgestone's was a Bridgestone dealer(big *** sign out front). His quote on the Michelin PS2 ZP's was terrible. A Michelin dealer did much better on the Michelin tires. Both were better then tire rack. In fact, one dealer, when I asked for the quote in person, pulled out a flyer/catalog????? from TireRack and then called them for a price. His price was really high.

I drive my Z06 on a lot of cruises with the two clubs I belong to. I drive my 64(has a spare tire) on local cruises. I want the security of having runflats when on long trips to scenic, off the Interstate, out of the way places. If I never drove the car out of the city limits, then I would consider non run flats.

I guess with any tire that wide there would be hydroplaning with all brands.

Some mitigate the risk a little better. I really liked the Generals that they discontinued. Excellent wet/dry traction, inexpensive, and relatively quiet.

I went with Michelin Super Sports. Non run flat. MUCH quieter and handle fantastic in rain. Our car is our daily driver.

That's when they provide the LEAST security man . You know they simply collapse after 50 miles, right? And are ruined by 20. And good luck finding a tire shop that can deal with 30 series runflats in anything other than a major city. And even if you happen to be near a big city, they never carry those tires, so you're at least 2 days away from getting back on the road. Bottom line is either runflats or non-runflats, you need to PATCH the tire before it becomes deflated. And if you have a non-runflat tire, you have MUCH better chances of getting it patched than a runflat, which requires a special machine. A runflat only makes sense if you work at night, in dangerous places, and can get home in less than 50 miles. By the way, by carrying a compressor and a patch kit, you can only air the tire up to get you home, and plug it home. But I rather have a compressor, patch kit, and a jack kit to have options, but to each his own.

But I agree with you giving the tire sale to a local company. I use Discount Tire. They match Discount Tire Direct prices, which usually beat Tire Rack's, and the tax vs shipping is pretty much a wash indeed. An excellent tire is the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, and that's what I'll get next. Since I don't live in the bronx, to me runflats are more of a hindrance than piece of mind, since NOBODY would be able to touch them where I usually travel, so for now I carry a flat tire repair kit to nurse a runflat tire home if needed. Ride should improve dramatically as well, along with better feedback, due to more compliant sidewalls. By the way, the 050A tires are excellent, and also available in non-runflat Z06/GS sizes, I believe. I'm not a big Bridgestone fan, but the Ferraris I've driven have had 050As, and I've been impressed with them when pushing the cars. However, I won't try my luck again on my sportbike .
