So I installed some long tube headers on my 05 LS2 this weekend. The install went fine and the power increase was noticable. What was also noticeable was the increase valve train noise resonating down the primary runners. After searching I learned the increase in sound is typical.
I am interested in reducing this noise, I am not fond of the recurring ticking sound when idling. Before anyone suggests it, there are no leaks in the system. The sound is not louder under load which is typical of a primary leak. Also the sound is more noticable when the engine is hot, again not typical of leaks. Plus the noise was always there, but before it was barely noticable, now it is amplified.
So on to a solution, if I had to live with it I could, but I would be willing to invest in some NVH reduction. I have no interest in pulling the heads. So will a good set of aftermarket roller rockers help reduce the noise?
idle, above that you cant isolate the sound. I think the other issue is i am using the factory exhaust. Which means there is little tailpipe noise to wash out the sound at the sides and under the car.

They'll help reduce friction - not the noise. That's what I found out. But then again - I wasn't trying to eliminate the noise.
Every car I'v ever seen with an LS motor and headers on the car has had some degre of that tick noise at idle from headers regardless of what rockers were on the engine.
Had it on the lift idling. Not leaking at the collector. Used a rubber hose to listen to the primaries, no leak there. It just sound like valve/engine noise traveling down the primary tubes. It is easiest to hear from the side of the car, through the front wheel well, or under the body.
