Default 2008 C6 Key Fob Problem - New Issue

I started a thread yeserday when I had the "no key fob detected" message. Changed the batteries and everything seemed to be working fine or so I thought. I was out shopping with the car when I changed the batteries - used the glove box fob location to get the car going and to the store.

Once I changed the batteries everything seemed to work fine for the rest of the day. Drove home and parked in the garage overnight. This morning I could not get in the car - remote locks wouldn't work with either fob - had to use the key to open hatch and pull the door release - got the no key fob detected once I was in the car. Thought maybe the batteries had died in the fobs over night.

This afternoon I took the car out for a drive - had to start it in the garage with the fob in glove box. After driving for a bit I shut the car off and took the fob out of the glove box to check the remote door locks - they worked fine on both remotes. Got back in the car and it started normally - no fob in glove box required.

Drove home and parked in the garage - tried to restart it and got no fobs detected. Used the glove box fob location again to start the car and get it out of the garage - parked in front of the garage and both fobs worked fine again - pulled in the garage and tried again - no fobs detected.

Ony thing I can figure is there is something in my garage interfering with the key fobs - it is a wood frame garage with vinyl siding and it deos have a metal roof. There were no radios, cell phones or chargers in the garage when I had the problem. There are other vehicles, an atv and a boat in the garage but nothing that I can think of that could cause interference other than maybe the steel roof ?????

Anybody have a similar experience or any ideas ????

Sounds like you've got a signal coming from somewhere. Garage door openers can interfere. Re-chargers. Cell Phones.

You don't say how long you've had the car or how long you've been parking in the garage withOUT issues. That's what I would be asking - what changed at the same time that this issue cropped up?

I get the "no fobs detected" message when I have my fob and my iPhone in the same pocket...

Default Update on no key fob detected issue

I bought the car about 4 weeks ago - I have a 3 car garage and had the car in a different bay for the first 3 weeks - I did have the no fobs detected once in that bay - thought the battery was low so I charged it and it worked after that.

I moved the car to a bay at the other end lof the garage about a week ago. To be honest I don't know if it ever started properly in that bay. Can't remember if I used it after I parked it in that bay - I was away on business for a week and while I was away my wife couldn't get it to start - no fobs detected - she didnt know about the glove box backup so she left it sit till I got home on Friday. Since that time I have never got it to start properly in that bay of the garage

Good suggestion on looking for what has changed. Only thing I can think of is the dfferent parking bay. I suppose if one of the 3 garage door openers is causing a problem I may have moved closer to the one causing the problem. that is the only thing I can think of. The bay it is in now is the farthest one from the house where any other electrical equipment couldn be causing interference.

I will try it in a different parking location later tonight and see if any difference and report back

The garage door openers shouldn't be doing anything until you activate them. Regardless, that should be an easy variable to eliminate - open the door(s), unplug the openers, and put the remotes in the house.

I'd also take a trip around the garage and inventory everything that's plugged into the wall sockets. And, if possible, throw the garage circuit breaker(s) off. Given your decription it would seem that something local is interfering and it doesn't take much to do so (see my iPhone issue.)

Anything operating on the other car(s) in the garage? Alarm system(s)? Proximity sensor systems could be an issue (just guessing now.)

As you debug this issue remember how the system works. You pull the handle on the car door and the car sends a signal to the fob(s) and expects an answer right away. Ditto hitting the starter button. That's two possible paths of failure already - the car sends a signal that's not strong enough to trigger the fob AND/OR the fob answers weakly or not at all. Outside intereference could cause either or both. The fact that you had this issue before and charging the battery seemed to fix it suggests the first cause - the car's signal was too weak to trigger the fob (low power and/or interference could be the cause.)

As has been stated many times, these cars can be really weird and goofy when the battery gets low/bad. Number one on the "variable elimination" list for these types of things is being sure that all the power sources involved are as healthy as possible.
