Default traction control question

I have a 2006 C6, and I took it to an autoX event yesterday, first time with R comound tires(no TPMS sensors), also the rear tires were 1 inch smaller in diameter than stock.
so I arrived and ran the first run with traction control off. All went great, on the second run, again traction control off, but halfway through the run the car felt like it hit the brakes on it's own, so I glance down at the dash and sure enough even though I turned off the traction control the active handleing came on, after a couple of corners it went back to traction control off again. WTF? Ideas anyone? I rode the last two runs with competitive driving mode just to be safe as when the AH came on in that second run it was not where I wanted it...

Like I said in response to your post over in the AutoX/Roadrace section - that's the way the TPMS works.

If you don't have tire pressure sensors, after a period of time you won't be able to put the AH into Comp mode or turn it off completely, and if you were running in Comp or AH completely off, after that period of time the AH will automatically turn back full on.

Your system is working exactly as it's designed to work!!

That's why most of us that run roadcourse track events run sensors in our track wheels.

Running with no sensors is usually not as much of a problem for drag racers or autoxers. Your 2006 should have about 60 minutes from when you start the engine to when you get the "Service Tire Monitor" message and the "limp mode" of the AH. I think it was 2007 that time period went about 30 minutes, and in 2009 down to about 20 minutes, although the later model years may tolerate running with no sensors better than the earlier year C6's.

that was not the issue, it turns out I was the problem, I assumed that when I hit the button once and it said tc was off the AH was still on, you have to press and hold the button for 5 seconds for it to go completely off. Never once did I get the service tpms warning, but again, I never had the car running for over an hour at a time, it is a 15 minute drive to the course, and each run is less than 3 minutes.....

Isn't funny how the vast majority of problems described on this forum are usually operator problems? I congratulate you on your ability to admit it in public. Good luck with your Autocrossing. Hopefully, you will start to see some FTDs in the stock related classes.

I wish, there are a couple of guys there that have been doing this for years and years, and have more Bal## than brains and I don't have too many hopes of overcomming their times any time soon....

It is all about seat time, seat time and seat time. I was in your position and after a couple of years I was getting FTDs at a lot of events, now at 70 I am looking at other people getting the FTDs although I am close I am not quite close enough. Just can't get the same times I used to get although the car has improved significantly and is keeping me in the hunt.

I am loving it, I ran all last year with a 87 BMW which I truely believed was underpowered, so I moved up to a C4 for winter, and last month I jumped to the C6 as the C4 was proving too unreliable for daily driving. I was amazed how much better the R compound tires really were. You hear about it but until you actually drive them you do not really know...
