Default Cleaning Vararam air filter.

Decided to wash my vararam air filter this weekend.
Took it out, scrubbed it off with soapy water, rinsed it well, let it dry.
Sprayed the intake side (which I couldn't really see any airflow direction markings) with WD-40 and replaced.
The gaskets were all stretched/unstuck, but I got them stuffed back in there the best I could.

It was fairly dirty, with embedded tree junk.
I was expecting a slight mpg increase, since I hadn't cleaned it in a while.
Nope, exactly the same as before.

You should be using the Green filter kit to clean - call me at 866-507-2648 and I will get you some new gaskets!

I clean mine once a year. Went and bought an extra filter with the green clean kit from the Vararam guys. I take out the dirty one, and put in the prevously cleaned one. Then wash the dirty one for the next year. I long ago got a Sharpie and drew an arrow to show the air flow direction on each filter. I've had the Vararam on my 2006 C6 now for almost 5 1/2 years. Your mileage won't get better. It's the ethanol. Dropped my mileage about a 1 to 1.5 mpg.

PS: the Vararam guys sent me a cool hat too when I bought the cleaning kit along with some extra foam insulation.

Talked to Steve from Vararam, he got me all hooked up.
He's sending me the green cleaning kit, and 4 new gaskets.

I just cleaned mine. I didn't know the air filter was directional.

I guess I should be doing the same...

You do realize on your website (the PDF) it says "Once dry re-oil with any after market filter kit or we prefer WD-40"???

Okay, as a recent VR buyer, how do we change the filter. Any step-by-steps? Looking at it, not sure how tough or easy to do.

IMO, the easiest way is to remove the entire assembly from the car(2 screws and un-couple) then seperate the two halfs.

Somebody told me to throw the filter in the dishwasher to clean it safely. Just don't tell my wife.

Steve at VaraRam provides some of the BEST customer service to the members of this forum in my opinion. He is involved in every post that I've seen and helped me out a while back as well.

Great Job!

Going to try cleaning my Varram filter this weekend. Steve can I call you tomorrow to get the cleaning kit?
One question, my filter is red, do I still use the Green filter cleaning kit?

Steve, I just aquired a used Vararam CAI, and need to clean the air filter. I need a cleaning kit and instructions. Mine came with no details.

You mentioned gaskets. What gaskets are you talking about?

This thread is 5 years old. You'd be better to call, since he hung up the phone a long time ago.

Hey guys can ayone tell me how to get the vararam filter off ?

Do I remove it at the clamps? I tried that but its still stuck on there very tight, I don't want to wiggle and rip it out and risk damaging something

gotta be an easier way ?

thanks
