when I opened driver door and wouldn't shut off until door was closed. 2011 C6 and car was not running had been sitting over night in the garage. Did not have FOB on me at the time and oil was changed couple days ago at dealer and oil life monitor was reset. Doubt if either would be a factor. Frequently open driver door with out FOB to detail etc. and chime has not come on before. After 10 min went back to car with FOB in pocket opened driver door and no chime. Took FOB back in house and went back to car and opened driver door. No chime. Maybe a fluke? Leave alone or reset settings. Any thoughts?
I can tell you one thing that does it because it happened to me.
When you get out of the car and shut the door, don't let the fob stay too close to the door for more than just a few seconds. It won't do anything until the next time you open the car door to get in. It's a reminder that the car "thought" you left the fob in the car last time.
I realize that the fob left in the car alarm is different when you actually shut the door with a fob left in the car.
Try 2 different things to avoid it in the future.
1. Turn off the fob left in the car warning option.
2. Move the fob away from the car door more quickly after you get out and close the door.
Nope, but you're not the only one, so consider it 'normal' . Bad design. It happens to my '12 GS every so often, even though I have the 'fob inside car reminder' turned off. Not a big deal, but annoying nonetheless. The good news is there's nothing wrong with our cars . Just one more idiosyncrasy, like the 'marbles in a can' noise when taking off on manual cars.
Two things that might work. First, close door and open it again (will try that next time). And the other mentioned before is to leave the fob away from the car if you're going to stay near the car. Haven't remembered to do that yet, but much rather deal with the first 'fix'... if it works .
Thanks Jim and ELP JC. Good info and come to think of it, the last time I drove the car I had taken the FOB out of my pants pocket and placed it in the small storage space near the bottom of the driver side door panel. Door was open and FOB was outside the car proper when I retrieved it. What you are saying makes sense. Thanks!!
