This may be a dumb question but will powder coat hold up to the temps on the exhaust tips or do you have to use ceramic coating or something? I have seen some black tips done but did not see what method was used.

It should hold up to the heat, unless you're running Nitrous - but you'd have to sand the finish a bit, just discuss with a 'coater ...
I went with the bbq paint because the finish matches the OEM diffuser. I didnt want my exhaust to stick out, be noticeable, and with the bbq paint it almost blends right in; just what I ordered.
If your mind is set on gloss then the first place I'd start is by trying to get a handle on your temps. Do you have access to an IR temp gun? If so you want to get a reading from a NON REFLECTIVE surface. I'm assuming these are SS or chrome so hopefully there is a fair amount of carbon on the inside edge of the tip. If they are multi-walled you want the temp from as close to the exterior surface as possible. It may be a good idea to get temps from both inside the tip and outside noting whether they are bright or black surfaces. Most people don't realize that the temp reading from a bright surface is undervalued by at least 100-150 degree's. The reflection throws off the reading.
If you're on the cusp of temp for the gloss, we'd be willing to run a set for free in powder to see if its a viable option. Also, don't discount the option of the matte finish. Matte and gloss black go very well together. That way you'd get the thermal advantage of the Ceramic Coating as well. Below is a Vette we did a while back that is still one of my favorites. .
Unfortunately this exhaust is for a car that I have on order that wont be delivered until August so I won't be able to get a temp reading. That vette in my avatar is my old car that I sold a couple years back, I currently drive a 2010 F-150 with dumped exhaust so getting a reading from that won't do me any good.
I am trying to have the exhaust done beforehand so when my car gets here I can immediately throw the exhaust on. I have a room full of parts for a car that has not even been assembled yet.
My friend owns a PC shop in Houston and said he will do it for me in gloss black PC and if it doesn't work out he will strip it and we can try something else. I think that is the route I am going to go for now.
Thanks again for all the info and help. Perhaps you should look into becoming a forum vendor here. There are probably a lot of potential clients for your company on here, most of which have deep pockets, mine are shallow.
