I have a friend with an LS2 auto. He is considering a cam but wants a mild cam that will not require a stall or create surging at stop lights. I'm not an auto person, so I can't make a solid recommendation.
I went with England Green's Mayhem cam, which is not a particularly popular choice on the forum (most people go bigger). EG describes it as a high 220's / low 230's duration cam which is relatively mild. I didn't want any drivability issues and, while much of this comes down to a good tune, I have to say that I probably could have gone slightly bigger and still been perfectly happy. The car drives flawlessly... no drivability issues whatsoever. If it weren't for the valvetrain noise and lope at idle, you'd think it was the stock cam.
My car is an MN6 so I can't advise you on the stall question... but what I chose gives me absolutely no regrets. It smells a little rich on a cold start, but once the cats light up there's no gas smell at all. If that's a concern to your friend, make sure he goes with catted long tubes if his car doesn't already have them. If he doesn't have headers, that should be done at the same time the cam goes in.
Do a search on Spinmonster and it will pull up as much info as you can read on what you need. If you have any questions just PM Spinmonster and he will make a good recommendation .. he doesn't sell anything so he has nothing to gain from his advice..
OP: I have done a lot of n/a mods for my 07 A6 & my specs are in my profile. My cam spec is (220/224, .581/.581, 113 LSA). Overall I am happy with it. Good luck to your friend's mods.
I strongly recommend your friend do stall before doing a cam. Without a stall you will be very limited in your cam selection. Not to mention you will not get the full benefit of your new cam without a stall. Excluding NOS a stall is the best bang for the buck on an A4 or A6. I would consider the Yank SS3200 or SS3600 or the 3400 from Circle D converters. I would contact Spinmonster for a suitable cam.
