I have read, read, and read somemore on this forum in various places about this removal. I have not found any threads that explain it well enough for me to get it. I am installing a carbon fiber radio bezel and need to get the lighter assembly out of the original radio bezel. I busted the handling control **** and blew the fuse to the lighter already. I am not having much luck at all. There honestly is no excuse for this to be as difficult as it has become. Quite disgusted with the overall engineering all the way around. So much so there could very well could be a for sale sign going up in the windshield. I have screwed around with a lot of vehicles and have never ran into this sort of garbage. I was all revved up thinking about heads and a cam next year. This has me thinking maybe another route might fit me better. If anyone can help me finish this project I appreciate it. I can't believe GM can't come up with a little better plan for wire connectors and cigarette lighters.
I ended up cutting the wires to the lighter and splicing when I reinstsalled... yeah, it's a pita. there is a small release tab on the TOP of the connector (between the top of the connector and the actual radio bezel).. It's darn near impossible to get it off but there are a few threads about using a bent heavy duty paperclip to hit the release (I tried this.. no luck)..
Just cut the wires and splice em back later. It was also fun getting the TC switch out but it did eventually come out.
Wait until you have to put them all back in after the do the HydroCarbon... The holes all get slightly smaller from the clear coat finish and then you have to very carefully shave the openings to allow the connectors to re-seat in the holes... All good fun!!
