first time buyer of track style tires (kumho xs)...i have heard that these types of tires need to be broke in a particular way.....?? can anyone give me some pointers?
To get the best performance the tires need to be run through one heat cycle and then stored for at least 24 hours before using. NASCAR calls them Scrubs.
The only place you can run them hard enough to get hot is on a track. Putt putting on local back roads at 70/80 mph will not get them hot enough (need around 200 degrees). I tried doing it myself on local back roads about 10 years ago and the hottest I could get my tires was about 130 degrees. That is why places like Tire Rack offer the heat cycling service. They run the tires in a roller arrangement that stresses them enough to get up to temperature.
