A friend of mine just bought an 05 that had been in an accident... the driver went off the road and over a lot of large rocks..
Bottom line the whole drive-train is junk... He plans on making it into a drag race car (maybe try and register it if he can)
The #1 priority is 1/4 mile performance...he is trying to decide which transmission would be a better choice an A4 or A6 the car will be back hafed..to put larger tires..Slicks not drag radials, the motor will be making over 1000 hp ...
He is going TOP SHELF with the motor and drive train..forged twin turbo motor.. it's the trans that is undecided as of now I said a powerglide ???
But he wants either an A4 or A6 because he may try to get it registered... bottom line which trans would you go with between the 2 with drag racing the priority

I too would've suggested a Powerglide or TH400 above all else for that project and then just work with tire heights on the street tires and/or maybe even a Gear Vendors Overdrive system (if it can even be made to fit) for street/highway duty.
But if he's hell bent on only one of those two GM overdrive transmissions then it's A4 all the way. Either a fully built 4L65 or even a 4L80 might be able to get it done.
But if he's going back half, won't that ultimately move the transmission to the middle of the car, creating all sorts of other issues/changes if retaining the 4 (or 6) speed auto?
